Sterile water is purified water that has been filtered to remove microorganisms and sealed under sterile conditions. Unlike bacteriostatic water, it contains no benzyl alcohol or other preservative.
Because there is no bacteriostatic agent to inhibit bacterial growth, a sterile water vial is intended for a single withdrawal and should not be re-entered.
