The 10 mL vial is the smallest of our three own-label volumes: a sealed multiple-dose vial of bacteriostatic water — sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — with the lot number and expiry printed on its label. It is the entry point to the range, and the size to choose when a small volume is all that is needed or a first order is a trial.

About the 10 mL vial

It is sold singly and in packs of 2, 5 and 10 identical vials. A pack is not a bigger vial: every vial in it carries its own seal and its own label, and the price per vial falls as the pack grows. The prices below are read from the same list checkout charges.

Every vial is dispatched sealed from Melbourne — same business day before 1 pm Melbourne time, tracked to New Zealand. Our own-label vial is labelled not for injection or infusion and not for human or veterinary administration; the warning panel printed on the vial governs.

Overview

Ordering from New Zealand: these are the same sealed own-label vials our Australian store sells, dispatched from Melbourne with tracking and priced and charged in New Zealand dollars. The 30 mL vial is the lowest price per millilitre, and multi-vial packs lower the price per vial. Postage is a flat rate per order, so it adds less to each vial on a larger order. Standard postage is NZ$18.99 (4–7 business days) and express is NZ$39.99 (2–5 business days), estimated from dispatch.

This is bacteriostatic water supplied in a multiple-dose vial. It is the same preserved sterile water in the same multiple-dose vial format as the branded presentations, without a manufacturer's brand on the label — which is most of what separates the two on price. They are not labelled for the same purposes and are not interchangeable; each vial's own label governs.

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol is a bacteriostatic preservative: it inhibits the growth of most common bacteria rather than sterilising anything, and that is what allows a sealed multiple-dose vial to be entered more than once instead of being discarded after a single withdrawal. It is commonly shortened to BAC water; both names describe the same thing.

**Not for injection.** This product is not for injection or infusion, not for human or veterinary administration, and must not be ingested. It is not a medicine, and no therapeutic use is claimed or intended for it. The warning panel printed on the vial states the same thing and governs.

Keep the container securely closed and stored at or below 25 °C. Do not use it if the container is damaged or the solution appears contaminated.

**Three sizes.** The vial comes in 10 mL, 20 mL and 30 mL, each singly and in 2-, 5- and 10-vial packs, and each size is the same solution in the same multiple-dose vial format; the volume is the only difference. The 30 mL is the lowest price per millilitre and the 10 mL the highest, but the in-use period after first entry is the same for all three, so the right size is the one that gets finished inside it.

What arrives is a sealed multiple-dose glass vial: a rubber stopper held under an aluminium crimp beneath a flip-off cap, a lot number and an expiry printed on the label, and a clear, colourless solution inside. Nothing is decanted, repackaged or relabelled between the supplier and the parcel. Check every vial on arrival and set aside any whose seal is not intact, whose glass is damaged, or whose solution is not clear and colourless.

Three vial sizes rather than one. The 30 mL vial carries the lowest price per millilitre, but a vial has a fixed in-use period once its stopper is first entered, and one discarded part-used costs more than the smaller vial that would have been finished. The 10 and 20 mL presentations exist for that reason, not as a lesser option.

Multi-vial packs lower the price per vial without shortening anything. An unopened vial keeps until its printed expiry, and each vial's in-use period begins only when that particular vial is opened — so the 5- and 10-vial packs cost less per vial than buying them one at a time, with nothing traded away.

Two bacteriostatic waters are listed on this site, and they are not the same listing. The other is an original manufacturer presentation labelled Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP, supplied factory-sealed and unaltered, and it is labelled for purposes this vial's label expressly excludes. What separates them on price is largely the manufacturer's brand on the label; what separates them on the shelf is what each label permits. Compare the two labels rather than the two prices — they are not interchangeable.

For New Zealand orders, we dispatch from Melbourne with tracked delivery. Standard postage is NZ$18.99 (4–7 business days) and express is NZ$39.99 (2–5 business days), estimated from dispatch. You must be 18 or over to purchase.

FAQ

Is the 10 mL vial the same solution as the 20 mL and 30 mL?

Yes. All three own-label volumes are the same preparation — sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol — in a different fill volume. The 10 mL is the smallest fill and the highest price per millilitre; the 30 mL is the lowest.

What packs is the 10 mL vial available in?

Singly, and in packs of 2, 5 and 10 identical sealed vials. Choose the pack in the price panel; the pack price applies at checkout with no code.

How long does an unopened 10 mL vial keep?

Until the expiry printed on its label, stored at or below 25 °C with the container securely closed. Discard a vial whose solution no longer appears clear.

Is BAC water the same as bacteriostatic water?

Yes. BAC water is simply the common abbreviation for bacteriostatic water: water preserved with 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol, in a multiple-dose vial. You may also see it written as bac water. This vial's label states that it is not for injection or infusion.

Can Customs hold a parcel to New Zealand?

It can. An order to a New Zealand address is an import, and you are the importer. The New Zealand Customs Service, and Medsafe for medicines and related products, may inspect a parcel, hold it, or ask you for information before releasing it. If a parcel is held, contact us with your order reference and we will send the invoice and product details Customs asks for. Our New Zealand shipping and returns policy sets out the rest.

Is this for injection?

No. This product is not for injection or infusion, not for human or veterinary administration, and must not be ingested. It is not a medicine and no therapeutic use is claimed or intended for it. The warning panel printed on the vial states the same and governs.

What is in it?

Sterile water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative, supplied in a multiple-dose vial. That is the same composition the term bacteriostatic water describes generally.

What sizes are available?

10 mL, 20 mL and 30 mL multiple-dose vials, singly and in multi-vial packs — 2, 5 or 10 vials of each size.

Which size should I choose?

The 30 mL vial is the lowest price per millilitre. The 10 and 20 mL vials suit anyone who would not get through a 30 mL vial before its in-use period ends: a part-used vial that has to be discarded costs more than the smaller one would have.

What does it work out to per millilitre?

The per-millilitre price is shown against each size in the selector above. The 30 mL vial is the lowest and the 10 mL the highest, and the 2-, 5- and 10-vial packs lower it further again — the 10-vial packs by around a quarter against a single vial of the same size.

Where can I buy bacteriostatic water in New Zealand?

Here, online. We dispatch sealed vials from Melbourne to New Zealand with tracking, priced and charged in NZD. Standard postage is NZ$18.99 (4–7 business days) and express is NZ$39.99 (2–5 business days), estimated from dispatch; customs processing and rural delivery can take longer.

Do you deliver to New Zealand?

Yes — tracked, from Melbourne. Standard is estimated at 4–7 business days and express at 2–5 business days after dispatch; both are estimates rather than guarantees. Standard shipping is NZ$18.99 and express is NZ$39.99.

When will my order be dispatched?

Orders placed before 1 pm Melbourne time on a business day are dispatched the same business day. The dispatch line above the buy button shows the current cutoff and widens by itself when stock is low, so it is the figure to trust over any general statement.

What is printed on the vial label?

The product name, that it is a multiple-dose vial, the 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol content, the fill volume, a lot number, an expiry date, storage conditions, and a warning panel stating that it is not for injection or infusion, not for human or veterinary administration, and not to be ingested.

What should I check when a vial arrives?

That the flip-off cap and aluminium crimp are intact and unbroken, that the glass is undamaged, and that the solution is clear and colourless. Set aside any vial that fails one of those, and any vial past the expiry printed on it.

What temperature should it be stored at?

At or below 25 °C with the container securely closed, which is what the vial's own label states. Refrigeration is not required. Storage conditions do not extend the in-use period once a vial has been entered.

How long does an unopened vial keep?

Until the expiry printed on that vial. A separate and much shorter in-use period begins the moment the stopper is first entered, and whichever date falls first ends the vial's usable life — so buying several at once does not shorten anything, because each vial's in-use period starts only when that vial is opened.

How does it differ from the other bacteriostatic water you stock?

The other vial is an original manufacturer presentation labelled Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP, which we supply factory-sealed and unaltered. This vial is labelled simply as bacteriostatic water, and its label states that it is not for injection or infusion and not for human or veterinary administration. Read each vial's own label — they are not interchangeable.

Why is it cheaper than the branded vial?

It is unbranded: the same preserved sterile water in the same multiple-dose vial format, without a manufacturer's brand on the label. The two are not labelled for the same thing, so compare the labels rather than the price alone.
